Overview
The license model for your account determines how you manage and apply licenses in the Cato Management Application (CMA).
There are two Cato account license models: Enforcement and Bursting. Typically, the choice of license model depends on the date of the license agreement:
Until Jan 2027: All accounts use the Enforcement Model
From Jan 2027: New accounts and renewals use the Bursting Model
Customers who onboarded between Jul 2026 and Jan 2027 could use either model, and existing accounts retain their assigned model. As described below, you can check which model your account uses from the CMA’s License page.
The key differences between the two models is the licensing for sites and remote users:
Enforcement Model | Bursting Model | |
|---|---|---|
Sites | Define total licensed bandwidth for each site | Site bandwidth is measured by usage |
Remote Users | Assign a ZTNA license to each remote user | Remote user licenses are measured by usage |
