Overview
The license model for your account determines how you manage and apply licenses in the Cato Management Application (CMA).
There are two Cato account license models: the Enforcement Model and the Bursting Model. The license model typically depends on the date of the license agreement:
Before Jul 2026: All accounts used the Enforcement Model
From Jul 2026 until Jan 2027: New accounts and renewals will use either the Enforcement Model or the Bursting Model
From Jan 2027 onward: New accounts and renewals use the Bursting Model
Because customers who onboarded between Jul 2026 and Jan 2027 could use either model, and existing accounts retain their assigned model, use the methods below to identify which license model your account uses.
Site and Remote User Licenses
Sites
Enforcement model - Define total licensed bandwidth for each site
Bursting model - Site bandwidth is measured by usage
Remote users
Enforcement model - Assign a ZTNA license to each remote user
Bursting model - Remote user licenses are measured by usage
How to Identify Your License Model
You can identify the license model for your account by the layout and available tabs on the License page.
To identify your license model:
From the navigation menu, click Account > License.
Review the tabs on the License page to identify the license model:
If there are license summary tabs, such as Base Products and Insights, then your account uses the Bursting licensing model
